Tribhuvan University introduced Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Information Technology (B.Sc. CSIT) in 2007 as one of its most valuable course in the field of IT. According to TU, this course is designed by closely related organizations with the most popular universities and institutions in USA, Australia and so on. Though course structure was designed in 2007 itself with the inclusion of many elective courses to meet high-tech applications, the course content were described after the first batch of the course started. Every time the new semester started, TU Faculty would call upon the experts and respective subject teachers from all the TU affiliated colleges providing this course, to design the course content. By the time the course content is decided ,the new semester would already be late by one to one and half months (No wonder, even after 4 yrs of education when they should be graduating soon, the first batch of BScCSIT is still struggling at 7th Semester).
Well, this procedure of designing detailed course content is one of those many reasons that depicts the carelessness of TU Faculty under which this course is introduced. Recently, I came across, another such incident which just illustrated how careless these so called great TU Faculty members are. In the upcoming 7th semester of first batch, they had a elective course namely,'Oracle & XML'. Though the course title and the course outline looked to address the on-demand IT Sector of ORACLE DBMS, I was struck by a small pre-requisite note at the end of course outline which stated,"Pre-requisite: Java Programming".
Then, I inquired,"Have they studied JAVA?". And, the obvious answer was a big 'NO'. All I could do at that point was laugh at intelligence of the person who recommended the course. Either, s/he was very confident that BScCSIT students should be able to learn JAVA themselves, or the teacher taking this subject should be so good that s/he could teach both JAVA and then ORACLE/XML in one semester. Well, if you ask me I would say that he thought of the latter which could be possible if they allow to run a semester for around 7-9 months as they have been doing for the past 4 yrs (which is why they are running almost a year late for the first batch).
Whatever be the reason, I feel really sorry for the first batch of BScCSIT across the country, for its them who are sufferring in all the chaos and carelessness of TU Faculty. I can't blame these students for their acts in the past where they have knocking at the deaf ears of TU Faculty rather aggressively... Tell me would you not if you were at their place studying 5th year of 4-year course and yet yielding so very less in terms of quality eduation. All I can wish now is the trouble free path for the other following batches if TU Faculty learns from its long list of mistakes...
